I was onboard Mizar for 13 months from 1987 to 1988 as part of the Military department. The ship was absolutely white, just like some of the photos I have seen posted. I don't remember it being that shiny white like in the photos but it was a sturdy ship. I remember MSC not having money in the A76 program for anything more than the bare necessities. I also remember some of the worst weather I have ever been through. Does anyone else remember Super Typhoon Nelson? I remember being so frustrated at the situation that I wrote a letter to the Command Master Chief at MSCLANT. There were good people on the ship but the duty was the worse of my Navy career. What bothers me to this day is that the Navy didn't think that the ships under the A76 program qualified for double sea-duty. We were ALWAYS gone.
